Fuel calculation

Because of the large number of questions about the method of calculating fuel of the flights,
 I liked to share you this special educational calculates fuel lecture.

We can divide the fuel used for your flight into four sections, namely:
1 - Taxi Fuel (fuel used for taxi)
2 - Trip Fuel (fuel used for the flight on air).
3 - Reserves (fuel reserve).
4 - Extra (excess fuel).

* - Taxi fuel:
                   it is calculated fuel for the needs of the aircraft operating system, APU and taxiing to the runway. For example, Beoing737 fuel used for taxi operation is usually from 250 to 270 kg (taxi fuel information supplied by the Department of Operations)

* -  Trip Fuel:
                   it is the fuel using in your flight, starting with take-off, SID, Climbing, Cruising, Descending, approaching, star and landing. (We will explain later)

* - Reserves Fuel :
                             It is divided into three sections which are:
  1. unexpected events: eg accidentally head wind or far victors by the Controller. it always be 5% of the trip fuel
  2.  Fuel to alternative airport: it always be calculated according the distance to alternative airport .
  3.  final reserve fuel: the method of calculation assuming access in hold maneuver for 30 minutes.
* - Extra fuel :
                      It is calculated by the pilot as his request for extra fuel .

How to calculate fuel:
               Each aircraft has a certain value of fuel burning per hour. to be more accurate, each type of engines has a specific value for fuel burning  per hour.

For example:
737 burns 2,800 kg per hour
767 burns 5,000 kg per hour
777 burn 8450 kg per hour
747 burned 12,000 kg per hour
..... and so on.

Back to the topic of trip fuel calculating, Suppose that our aircraft is B737, our trip from Riyadh to Jeddah
Calculate how much time to get to our destination, it takes one and half hour.

According to time, the calculation of flight fuel :
1.5 * 2800 = 4200 kg

Example:
              A simple example for flight from Jeddah to Riyadh on a B737, the alternative airport will be in Dammam.

Taxi Fuel: 250 kg
Trip Fuel: 1.5 * 2800 = 4200 kg
Reserves Fuel : 3500 kg
Excess fuel: N/A

Total of outputs: 250 +4200 +3500 = 7950 kg        (this is fuel of the trip)

Note:
  • 1 Kg =  2.20462 Lbs
  •  To calculate trip time, divide trip distance by mile on your Ground speed.

Warning:
             This way of fuel calculation is not for real flights. it is a very simple way for just flight simulating only.

Fuel calculation for real flight depends on some other factors more such as Cruising altitude, Aircraft weight, resistance and direction of Wind.
